History

History

Howard_Portrait_1.jpg

Since the establishment of Howard & Sons in 1820, we have acquired an unprecedented international reputation as ‘makers of bespoke furniture’, and the name Howard & Sons continues to resonate throughout the interior design industry nearly 200 years on.

Today, we are still producing timeless pieces, using the same traditional

hand-crafted skills passed down through generations of craftsmen. Often imitated, our classic, bespoke collections are recognisable worldwide, and our own designs easily adapted to your personal specification to ensure that you will own a piece of enduring furniture history to cherish

for years to come.

Family run at its inception in 1820, Howard & Sons is still family run

today, and the same philosophy applies.  Our focus: craftsmanship, unique design, quality and tradition.

Craftsmanship

Craftsmanship

We believe that our time-honoured, traditional craftsmanship is the only way furniture should be created to ensure both comfort and durability.  Each piece of furniture is handmade in our London workshop, individually constructed using kiln-dried beech frames, hand-tacked webbing, independently lashed coiled springs and layers of teased animal hair.   Seat and back cushions are filled with our down and feather mix, or pure down if requested.

After nearly 200 years, Howard & Sons remains the furniture manufacturer every other company wishes to emulate.
